Sex therapy is a specialized form of counseling that supports individuals and couples in navigating intimacy, desire, sexual health, and relationship concerns. At Xenia Counseling, our work is grounded in trauma-informed care and guided by training standards from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

We provide sex therapy both in-person in Orem, UT and via telehealth, helping clients move from disconnection, shame, or confusion toward clarity, safety, and meaningful connection

WHY SEX THERAPY MATTERS

Sexual health is a core part of overall well-being—but it’s often the least talked about.

Many people come to therapy feeling:

  • Disconnected from their body or partner

  • Unsure how to communicate needs or boundaries

  • Impacted by shame, cultural messaging, or past experiences

  • Struggling with desire, arousal, or pain

  • Navigating life transitions (postpartum, medical, relational changes)

Sex therapy provides a structured, evidence-based space to explore these concerns without judgment.

WHAT WE HELP WITH

Our sex therapy services support:

  • Low or mismatched desire

  • Pain during sex

  • Out of Control Sexual Behaviors (OCSB)

  • Difficulty with arousal or orgasm

  • Sexual trauma and its impact on intimacy

  • Relationship and communication challenges

  • Religious or cultural shame around sexuality

  • Postpartum and women’s health concerns

  • Identity exploration (gender, sexual orientation)

.

OUR APPROACH

Our approach to sex therapy integrates:

  • Trauma-informed care (including EMDR and ART-informed work)

  • Nervous system regulation and body-based awareness

  • Attachment and relational frameworks

  • Values-based and boundary-focused work

We don’t treat sexual concerns in isolation—we look at the full picture: your body, your history, your relationships, and your environment.

AASECT TRAINING

Our clinicians are either AASECT Certified Sex Therapists (CSTs) or actively working toward certification through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

This means our work is guided by nationally recognized standards in:

  • Sexual health education

  • Clinical skill development

  • Ethical and inclusive care

You’re not getting general therapy that “touches on sex”—you’re working with clinicians specifically trained in this area.

Sex therapy may be a good fit if:

  • You want to feel more connected—to yourself or your partner

  • You’re tired of avoiding or struggling through intimacy

  • You want clear, professional guidance in an area that feels confusing or overwhelming

FOR THERAPISTS:

If you’re a therapist interested in specializing in sex therapy, pursuing certification through American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists can significantly deepen your clinical work and open opportunities for specialization. Hailey is our AASECT supervisor and is currently accepting new Supervisees!

At Xenia Counseling, we offer:

  • AASECT supervision for CST candidates

  • Clinical consultation in sexual health and trauma

  • Support in navigating certification requirements and casework

Whether you’re early in the process or actively working toward certification, supervision is designed to be practical, structured, and clinically relevant.
